Family photography – my style

As much as I love shooting weddings, there’s just something so special about photographing families and in particular, little people! Their unique personalities are a joy to capture.

I approach my family sessions in a similar way to my weddings, with the emphasis on making it a relaxed and fun experience for everyone. That way I believe I can capture your family in an honest and natural way to produce images you will love.

I like to take some time to get to know each family and will often put my camera down so I can just talk and play with the kids. Each child is different and some will be my best mate within minutes while others might need a little more time to get to know me. I won’t force anyone to do anything they don’t want to, choosing instead to just go with the flow. If your 2 year old wants to run around screaming for a few mnutes, let them! You can’t make a toddler do something they don’t want to can you?

About me

Although I don’t have children of my own I have almost 20 years experience  of photographing families, toddlers, babies and teens! I worked in portrait studios for many years before I started shooting weddings and have been called “The Child Whisperer” by a past client!

I’m also the eldest of 29 grandchildren on my mum’s side so yeah, I can handle a screaming toddler!

FAQ

What does it cost?

Prices start at £200.

Do you have a studio for family shoots?

No. All my shoots are done on location. Choosing somewhere special to you, whether it be a local park, the beach or in your home, means your images are unique to you.

What is the best time for a shoot?

That depends on you and your family. I’m always happy to work around meal and nap times so the children are at their best. No point trying to photograph a tired and grumpy toddler!

What should we wear?

Something comfortable that you’re not too bothered about getting a bit of muck on! My sessions are very relaxed and there might be some sitting on the ground involved. Easier to tickle the kids that way! For that reason, I would also avoid white!

What happens during the shoot?

We have fun! Each family is different but usually there’s walking, talking, tickling and lots of laughing involved!

What if it rains on the day?

We can make a decision on this together. If it’s just showers on and off then we can still go ahead, maybe just in our wellies! If it’s torrential though we might need to move the shoot indoors if your house is suitable, or, worst case scenario we re-arrange.

Can we have our shoot at home?

Of course! If your house is bright enough or you have a big garden then yes. I do most of my newborn and maternity sessions at home so not a problem at all!

How do we view our images?

After the session I get to work editing your images and then upload them to a password protected gallery. From there you can view your images, select your favourites and order digital files or prints. You can also share the gallery with grandparents, friends etc.

Do you sell prints, albums and framed products?

I do yes! Each package comes with a number of digital files but you can add on other products too. I can show you some samples after the shoot.

How do we book?

It’s really easy! Get in touch and we’ll arrange a date, then I just need a £50 deposit to secure that date (this will be deducted from your final balance)
