“Colour! What a deep and mysterious language, the language of dreams.”
Paul Gauguin

Need some colourful wedding ideas for your big day?
If you have found yourself on my website then it’s probably because you’re getting married in the not too distant future (congrats!) and you’re dreaming of having a fun and colourful wedding. You might be feeling a bit overwhelmed though and want some simple colourful wedding ideas that you can adopt for your day. Well, you’ve come to the right place!
For me, when I think about colour I think of energy and life and positivity. It just makes me happy! And on one of the happiest days of your life, isn’t it the perfect opportunity to express yourself through colour?
There are a number of ways you can inject colour into your big day. Some are small and subtle, while others make a much bolder statement! Here I’ll break it down into 8 sections, pick and choose the bits that resonate with you!

Vibrant wedding flowers
You can get so creative with colour in your florals, not only in the bouquets and buttonholes but also in your decorations. Think about using flowers in your table centrepieces, down the aisle of your ceremony room or with a full on flower arch!

Non-traditional wedding outfits
Long gone are the days when brides wore only white dresses and grooms wore dark suits, thank God! Now couples can literally wear what they want and I am here for it! I’ve seen brides in red, yellow and multicoloured dresses, grooms in pink and green suits, brides in beautifully tailored suits, the wedding party in different colours or in different tones of the same colour. You can also ask your guests to wear bright colours too! The possibilities are endless!

Loads of confetti!
When it comes to confetti (and if your venue allows it) you can never have too much! The best kind is the big, colourful paper discs. This variety is lighter than petals so flutters down at a slower rate, giving you plenty of time to enjoy the colourful blizzard!
I particularly like the confetti that Flutter Darlings and Proper Confetti make.
I have written a whole blog post on how to get amazing confetti shots here!

Colourful decorations
How you decorate your venue can have a massive impact and set the vibe for the whole day, especially when you’re using lots of colour. Think about using bunting, balloons, colourful table cloths, neon signs and even colourful glasswear!
Quirky and colourful wedding cake ideas
The cake or cake table is a really fun way to play with colour and you can put so much of your personalities into the design! You can use colourful icing, flowers or personalised cake toppers. Whatever you do PLEASE make sure you eat the cake on the day. Either cut it up and give it to guests for dessert or serve it later on as part of the evening snacks.

Creative wedding stationery
You can give your guests a hint of your colour scheme months or even years before the wedding when you send out your save the dates and then the invitations. This theme can then follow through to the wedding day in your order of service, seating plan and table names.

Bold and fun wedding hair and make-up
This one won’t be for everyone but dying your hair for your wedding can have such an impact! And of course I love it cos it looks great in the photos! If however, you’re not feeling brave enough to reach for the hair dye you can always add colour with hair accessories, flowers, a veil and if none of those appeal, maybe a bright red lip or some colourful nail varnish?!

Choose a venue with character!
There’s so much choice when it comes to wedding venues and the style of your venue could influence your colour scheme. Is it a blank canvas which you can really put your colourful stamp on or does it need very little doing to it, like Sefton Palm House for example?
Another thing to consider is the location of your venue. If it’s in the city then you’ll probably be within walking distance of some interesting graffiti backdrops. If it’s a more rural setting then you should have lots of colourful flowers and trees around. Wherever the location I will endeavour to seek out the most colourful spots, even if it means climbing into a bush (which I seem to do on a regular basis)!!

Book a wedding photographer who’s full of colourful wedding ideas!
Book the right photographer to capture all those gorgeous colours! There are so many different editing styles amongst photographers now so make sure you choose someone who will do your colour scheme justice. There’s no point spending a shit load of time and money on beautiful bold colours if you’re going to book a photographer who likes to desaturate the greens for example!
