Who’s ready for a fun and colourful Chester Zoo wedding?! This wedding was an absolute dream to photograph. Full of colour, creativity and cute animals as well as the nicest couple & guests!
When Sara & George first got in touch about their Chester Zoo wedding plans I was so excited to be part of it. I’m so happy I can now say I’m a Chester Zoo wedding photographer!
We first met up last autumn for their pre-wedding shoot in Sefton Park. Despite being really nervous about being photographed, Sara & George played a blinder, with a little help from Sara’s colourful scarf! I came away from that shoot really excited for their big day as I knew how much they love colour and how creative they both are (they’re both artists). I just knew it was going to be a corker!

Wedding ceremony in The Oakfield
This Grade 2 listed building is at the heart of Chester Zoo. Formerly the home of the zoo’s founder, George Mottershead, it was lovingly restored in 2018 to serve animal loving couples as a wedding venue. It’s a really beautiful mansion house with wood panelling and stained glass windows throughout.
As George waited patiently in the ceremony room, Sara arrived looking absolutely stunning, just look at that dress!! The ceremony itself was so lovely, with Sara close to a full on sob at one point and plenty of guests feeling all the emotions too!

Relaxed & fun Chester Zoo wedding photography
Following the ceremony Sara & George had plenty of time to mingle with their guests. This was also the perfect opportunity for me to get some relaxed candid shots of everyone enjoying themselves. The room for the wedding breakfast was decorated beautifully with flowers by Linden Lea and cute animal themed seating plan and centrepieces!
Once the newlyweds had enjoyed some fizz and canapés we headed outside for some group photos with their family & friends and then an epic bubble (instead of confetti) tunnel! This seemed to bring out the child in everyone and was thoroughly good fun!

A mini safari walk around the zoo!
Part of the wedding package at Chester Zoo is entry to the zoo itself and plenty of time to explore. The couple and I went for a stroll checking out the monkeys, penguins, flamingos and a very lazy Komodo dragon while I snapped away!

Wedding breakfast at The Oakfield
Our walk around the zoo helped us build up an appetite and the food at The Oakfield is incredible! I was looked after so well by S&G and the events team with a full three course meal!
We finished our time together with hilarious speeches (which included Sara’s mum sharing some of her early works of art) and the cutting of the cake by Bailey Rose Bakes! Check out the animal cake toppers!
Sara & George – thank you so much for booking me for your big day! It’s been lovely getting to know you both and I had so much fun at your wedding! Thanks also to Emma for recommending me as she knew we’d be a great match! xxx
