What can I say about 2020 that hasn’t already been said a million times?! It was absolutely shit for many people, devastating for some. People have lost their jobs, their homes and far too many have lost their lives. The wedding industry has been hit harder than most and with no clear idea of when we can all get back to work, the future remains uncertain.
In the bleakness of last year though there were a few rays of sunshine. I was able to photograph a handful of beautiful weddings despite all the restrictions and postponements. One of those weddings was this absolutely gorgeous micro wedding at Ness Gardens, my second home it feels like now!
Chloe and Will had planned for a bigger celebration earlier in the year but like many couples it couldn’t go ahead during the first lockdown so they moved to October in the hope that things would be more normal by then. As the big day approached it became clear that they wouldn’t be able to have the wedding they’d originally hoped for. Restrictions were still in place and wedding guests were capped at 15 at the time. Rather than postpone again though they chose to carry on regardless because they just wanted to GET MARRIED! Nothing else really mattered at that point. They’d already been through so much with Will coming over from America and them spending months apart due to the pandemic.
Ness Gardens Micro Wedding
It was so lovely to be part of their small (but perfectly formed) wedding day. The weather was great, apart from a two minute rain shower during the ceremony! The Rock Garden where the ceremony was held looked beautiful in all it’s autumnal glory. The guests were all in good spirits and the couple were, well just bloody adorable as you’re about to see! Chloe looked stunning in her flower crown and elegant lace detailed dress which showed off her amazing tattoss perfectly! Will opted for a three piece suit and looked every inch the dapper gent that he is! The ceremony was short and filled with emotion as well as the odd squirt of anti bacterial hand gel! The whole thing was also captured on Zoom for friends and family who couldn’t be there in person, a common occurence at weddings now!
After the ceremony the newlyweds had some time to relax with their guests and to bask in that just married feeling before I took them off for some couple portraits. We took a lovely little stroll around the gardens looking for colourful backdrops before we drove over to Parkgate, a place close to Chloe’s heart, to finish off our time together. It was freezing cold and I ended up climbing down onto the marshlands to get some of my shots but it was worth it! (Thanks to Chloe’s Uncle Paul for helping me get back up!)
Kind words from the couple
